We did this project over a full weekend and two additional weeks nights following.
Transforming carpeted stairs into wood.
Once it dries apply two coats of clear coat.
First i primed then with zinnser bin shellac.
Sand the wood using multiple grit sandpaper.
If there were existing hardwoods underneath the carpet sand them before re staining.
I used a foam roller to apply it sanding with fine sandpaper between coats and wiping off with a tac cloth.
Get that carpet off and your halfway there.
My husband and i got to enjoy a nice dinner and evening alone for our anniversary thanks mom and dad for keeping the kids overnight we took the kids swimming 4 wheeling in the woods and i busted my butt removing carpet and refinishing the basement stairs.
Use a foam brush to apply the stain and wipe with a lint free cloth.
Using a varnish stripper remove the top coat from the stair treads.
Remove the carpet from the stairs.
Stain and clear coat your stairs to give them long lasting appeal.
The carpet was old and dirty giving the entry a very dark and dated feel.
Our main goal was to rip off the carpet see what wood was underneath and.
This is our stairs before.
The look you want is easily achieveable if you are handy.
Stain seal as needed and your done.
From carpet to hardwood.
This is the best product for hiding wood grain fyi.
Fill in any holes in the wood with wood filler.
Finally i used benjamin moore advance paint in white to paint the risers also using a foam roller.
Follow the instructions on dry time.
